Dole
to St Leger (Chagny)

Sunday – Paris to
Dole.
Depart Paris, Gare de
Lyon, on the TGV train in the afternoon. On arrival at Dijon station you are met
by the Afloat in France guide and transferred to the barge at Dole for your
cruise through Burgundy and the Franche-Comté. A champagne reception welcomes
you on board and gives you a chance to meet the crew.
Monday - Visit Dole.
Cruise to St. Jean de Losne.
After breakfast take a
walking tour of Dole, including the magnificent cathedral and la Maison Pasteur,
home of Louis Pasteur. Return to the barge for a cruise through the lovely
countryside of the Franche Comté as the barge continues on to St. Jean de Losne,
the largest inland port in France. Take time to stroll around the port and see
the many pleasure and working boats moored here.
Tuesday - Visit
Dijon. Cruise to Verdun sur le Doubs.
Your guide takes you on a
walking tour of Dijon, including a visit to the Ducal Palace and the Grey Poupon
mustard shop. Experience the typical French market. After lunch, relax and enjoy
the afternoon cruise to Verdun sur le Doubs.
Wednesday - Visit
Beaune. Cruise to Chalon-sur-Saône.
This morning cruise to
the picturesque town of Chalon-sur-Saône. Enjoy lunch off the barge, before an
afternoon’s visit to Beaune, capital of the wine region of Burgundy, for a
tour of the famous Hôtel Dieu, Hospice de Beaune.
Thursday - Cruise to
Rully. Visit Château de Rully.
Enjoy a walking tour of
Chalon-sur-Saône, the last of the Burgundian style river towns. The barge
cruises upstream for a short distance and leaves the River Saône by clearing
the deep lock to enter the Canal du Centre. Now you are in the canal environment
you may disembark the barge at a lock, bicycle alongside or walk keeping pace
with the barge. After lunch your guide escorts you on a tour of the Château de
Rully.
Friday – Visit
Couches. Cruise to St. Léger.
A leisurely cruise on the
Canal du Centre gives you a chance to savor the beauty of the French
countryside. This afternoon visit the 11th century Château Marguerite de
Bourgogne in Couches. The tour includes a private underground wine tasting
conducted by the owner. The barge cruises to St. Léger, another quaint village
along the Canal du Centre. Farewell gala dinner on board.
Saturday – Dijon
to Paris.
After breakfast disembark
the barge and transfer to the Dijon rail station for the return on the TGV to
Paris, Gare de Lyon. On arrival you are met by the Afloat in France
representative who will assist you with your luggage.
