Sunday, Day 1
TOULOUSE TO CASTETS EN DORTHE
Meeting at 04:00 PM in the lobby of the hôtel "Holidays Inn Capoul" in Toulouse, transfer by mini-bus to the barge moored in the canal harbour of Castets en Dorthe. Champagne welcome and evening dinner on board.
Monday, Day 2
CASTETS EN DORTHE TO BEGLES
Cruising on the river Garonne towards Bègles (time of departure depending on the tide); a wonderful navigation along the vineyards of Graves, Sauternes, Fronsac, Ste Croix du Mont....all along the route, you will appreciate the peacefull atmosphere of the river and you will be interested to observ the very special fisher huts (called "tanquées") and built on the floodable banks. In the late afternoon, you will visit the Sub Marine base of Bordeaux..
BEGLES TO BORDEAUX
Navigation on a fast boat on the estuary of the Gironde to see the port de la Lune, the freight harbour, the fortress of Blaye, the islands and port Lamarque. With the mini-bus, you will visit the Château Maucaillou ( in the Médoc vigneyard), where you will lunch "en table d'hôtes"; wine tasting and visit of the really very interesting museum of Chateau Maucaillou, then back to the "ROSA" moored at the harbour of Bègles. A restful apéritif al fresco will be the opportunity to watch for the "Mascaret", a wave going up the river due to the tide!
Wednesday, Day 4
BORDEAUX
Morning visit of the cruise ship "Colbert" of the National Navy, lunch on board and during the afternoon visit of the old Boreaux in a omnibus of the year 1930, visit of the museum des Chartrons (wine wholesalers), the building dates back to the 8th century. Possibility afterwards for some shopping in the nice city center of Bordeaux.
BORDEAUX TO LIBOURNE
Navigation with a fast motorboat on the wild river Dordogne up to Libourne; and lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon, visit to the Château du Bouilh built in the reign of Louis XVI, wine tasting of their best Bordeaux wines. Excursion to the small city of Bourg, where is produced the tasty "Côtes de Bourg" then, following the scenic road, we finally reach the fortress of Blaye built by Vauban to defend the estuary from invaders
Friday, Day 6
LIBOURNE TO CASTETS EN DORTHE
Navigation with the "ROSA" on the Garonne, back to Castets; on our way, observation of the different villages, manshions, Chateaux and of the life along the river. If the tide permits it and if there is sufficient time left, visit to the Château de Toulouse-Lautrec by mini-bus. Farewell dinner on board.
CASTETS EN DORTHE TO AGEN AND TOULOUSE
After a generous breakfast, return by van to Agen and Toulouse.
NOTE: On alternate weeks, cruise will be in reverse direction. This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change.
