DURNSTEIN
CITY WALK & COLLEGIATE CHURCH

Durnstein belongs to the most attractive towns of the Wachau region. The town is surrounded by walls that climb all the way up to the ruin of the Kuenringer Castle, towering 150 meters over the town. It was here, that King Richard the Lionheart was allegedly held captive. During the guided tour through the city, you pass many well-kept burgher houses of the 16th through the 18th century as well as the remains of the Klarissin Convent from the 14th century. You visit the former convent church, today a parish church, which was built from 1721 to 1725 (interior tour). The beautiful blue tower can be seen from afar and is one of the most beautiful baroque era towers in Austria and the landmark of the city. In the convent courtyard, you can admire the wonderful main portal, a so-called splendor portal. In the interior of the church, beautiful stucco reliefs, altarpieces and an impressive, decoratively carved pulpit as well as beautiful choir stalls can be found. The baroque cloister is located at the western side of the church. You then enjoy some time at leisure to complete your visit with a stroll through Durnstein. If you wish you can sample typical local wines during a brief wine tasting. (Not included in the excursion price.)

VIENNA
CITY TOUR

The trip along the elegant Ring Boulevard will give you the opportunity to obtain a first impression of the city with its various buildings. You will pass the government offices, the municipal park, the Karl´s square, the opera, the Hofburg and various museums. At St. Stephen’s cathedral, you have the option to either join the guided walking tour or to explore the heart of the city by yourself. The tour takes about 90 minutes and includes an interior visit of the cathedral and a guided walking tour towards the Hofburg, the former residence of the Habsburg Emperors, and back to the cathedral. A tour bus will bring you back to the vessel. (On religious holidays cathedral tour might be restricted).

BUDAPEST
CITY TOUR

Budapest, also known as the ‘Queen of the Danube’, is one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. The great Danube River flows through the heart of the city, separating ancient Buda on one bank and the more modern Pest on the other. During the excursion, you have the opportunity to see Hero’s Square and the Parliament in Pest. In Buda, a guided 1 1/2 hours walking tour is planned. You will visit St. Mathias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion from where you have an impressive view onto Pest and the Danube. Before returning to the vessel, you will drive to Gellert Hill, where you will see the citadel and Liberation Monument and from where you will have another fine view of the city. The sequence of sights may change.

BRATISLAVA
OLD TOWN WALK

Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is located at the foot of the Little Carpathian Mountains on the banks of the Danube River. The excursion will start with a short bus ride to the scenic outlook ‘Slavin’, from where you have a panoramic view onto the city. Afterwards, you will start on a walking tour through the lovingly restored old town. You will pass through the Kapituls Lane, where you will see the Theological Seminary and the Gothic Church of the Order of St. Clare. At the Primate Square, you will find the highlight of the city, the Primate’s Palace. In this Neo-classicist building, you can find a number of representational halls as well as a remarkable gallery of famous European artists. The Goblin collection from the 17th century was discovered during renovations in 1903 and is particularly worth seeing. On the way back to the vessel, you will walk across ‘Hviedaslav Square’ where you can see the Opera House, the Ganymede Fountain and the concert hall.

MELK
BENEDICTINE ABBEY

Melk, located in the well-known Wachau Valley, is famous for its Benedictine Monastery. It is located on a 180- foot ridge, dominating the Danube, and is one of the most splendid examples of a baroque style building in Europe. Extensive visits of the Monastery and the Collegiate Church are the highlights of this excursion.
